(WAVY/NEXSTAR) — Several restaurants are showing thanks to Veterans by offering free items and meals. Veterans Day is celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 11, this year.

Editor’s note: Check with the individual business for details. Some individual restaurants may not be participating in the nationwide offers and/or might have different rules for the promotion.

Here are some of the locations offering freebies:

Restaurants

Applebee’s: Veterans and active-duty military receive a free meal from a limited menu at participating Applebee’s on Nov. 11. Dine-in only. Visit Applebee’s website for details.

California Pizza Kitchen: Choice of a complimentary pizza, pasta or full size salad and beverage from Veterans Day menu – all day.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill: Active duty and veterans can get free calamari with a purchase. A valid ID is needed. VisitCarrabba’s website for details.

Chili’s: Free dine-in meal from select menu items for all veterans and active duty – all day.

Cracker Barrel: Enjoy a free dessert. The offer is for active-duty military and veterans.

Denny’s: Free Build Your Own Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to noon for active-duty, inactive military and veterans with a valid military ID or DD 214.

Dunkin: Free donut for all veterans and active duty military – all day.

Golden Corral: Military Appreciation Event will run from November 1, 2020 – May 31, 2021.

Promotional cards for one FREE “Thank You” Meal will be distributed during the month of November, and can be redeemed November 1, 2020 – May 31, 2021. Who is eligible? Any person who has served in the U.S.

Military (retirees, veterans, active duty, National Guard or Reserves) and who picked up a Military Appreciation Meal Promotional Card in November 2020.

IHOP: Free Red, White and Blueberry pancake combo for all veterans and active duty service personnel – 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Little Caesar’s: Veterans and active-duty military can get a free $5 Hot and Ready lunch combo from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

McDonald’s (all locations): Free breakfast or lunch sandwich to all veterans and active-duty personnel – all day, just show military ID.

Olive Garden: Veterans and active-duty military can get a free entree from a special menu.

Red Lobster: Veterans, reservists and active-duty military personnel can get a free dessert or appetizer from a special menu when they dine in on Nov. 11

Red Robin: Veterans and active-duty military personnel with a loyalty card can receive a free Red’s Tavern Double Burger and bottomless steak fries from Nov. 12 through Nov. 30. Offer good for dine-in or takeout.

Starbucks: Enjoy a free tall coffee if you’re a veteran or active-duty military member.

Texas Roadhouse: At Texas Roadhouse, Veterans Day 2020 has changed from previous years, due to the pandemic: “Things are different this year due to the pandemic and capacity restrictions. To celebrate Veterans Day, Texas Roadhouse will hand out dinner vouchers at our stores’ parking lots on Wednesday, November 11, from 11am – 2pm.

We ask that all active, former, or retired military members please have their Military ID or proof of service when driving through to pick up their dinner voucher. Veterans and active military can redeem their dinner vouchers when they choose in-store until June of next year. Be sure to call your local Texas Roadhouse for details.

Retail

Kohl’s: Take 30% off in-store as a thank you from Kohl’s. The retail store also offers a 15% in-store discount every Monday as part of their Military Mondays. Make sure to bring your Military ID.

Home Depot: Veterans and active-duty military can receive a 10% discount on select items during in-store purchases on Nov. 11.

Target: Veterans, military personnel and their families can receive a 10% discount on one purchase Nov. 3 -11 in-store and online. Guests can visit target.com/military for more information and get verified for the offer.

Walgreens: The retailer is offering 20% off for military, veterans and their families Nov. 8-11. Walgreens also provides free flu shots for VA-enrolled veterans.

Bed, Bath & Beyond: Veterans and active-duty military can get 25% off their entire purchase Nov. 11-14 with proof of service.

Publix: Supermarket chain Publix is offering a 10% discount on Veterans Day for all active military personnel, retired service members and their families.

There’s always time to remember and honor the selfless individuals who gave their service to protect our rights and freedoms as Americans. Nationally observed days for service members date back to November 11, 1919 with the first observation of Armistice Day by President Wilson. Today, it’s more formally known as Veterans Day.

Many retailers and restaurants add their own contributions to Veterans Day by offering free meals, discounts or services.

Here are 23 Veterans Day freebies and deals for both veterans and active duty personnel, ranging from discounted Amazon Prime memberships to free meals:

1. Red Robin

Active duty members and veterans can enjoy a free tavern double burger with bottomless steak fries any time between Nov. 12 and Nov. The offer is valid on dine-in and to-go orders. You must already be a member of Red Robin Royalty, but you cannot sign up for the loyalty program on Veterans Day due to the chain’s efforts to reduce crowds during the pandemic. 

2.California Pizza Kitchen

In the mood for pizza? California Pizza Kitchen is offering a free beverage and entree on November 11.

Participants can choose from the chain’s signature pizzas, including its original BBQ chicken pizza, or opt for a full-size salad or pasta.

The offer is available for dine-in and walk-in takeout only, and participants must be in uniform or show their military ID or other proof of service to be eligible.

3. Cracker Barrel

Both veterans and active duty military members can settle in at Cracker Barrel on November 11 for some comfort food and a free slice of double chocolate fudge Coca-Cola cake or a pumpkin pie latte. 

Those not in the service but looking to support the military will have 10% of their purchase on select rockers donated to Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit organization supporting military families. In addition, the company will donate a $10 gift card to Operation Homefront with each to-go order of a country fried turkey family meal basket.

4. Denny’s

All veterans and active duty service members will receive a free build your own grand slam breakfast at Denny’s on November 11. The deal is good from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is valid for dine-in only. Must show valid military ID or DD 214 to be eligible. 

5. Dunkin’

The donut and coffee-chain is offering all veterans and active duty military members a free donut of their choice on November 11. The deal is good in-store only and is not available for orders placed on the Dunkin’ mobile app.

6. Golden Corral

Golden Corral’s Military Appreciation Event “will look a little different this year,” in response to Covid-19, according to its website. Instead of hosting an appreciation night, the buffet-chain will be giving out promotional cards for a  free meal valid for the next six months.

Military members can pick up a promotional card during the month of November worth a free “thank you” meal. The card will be valid from Nov. 1 – May 31, 2021 for dine-in only, Monday-Thursday.

7. Texas Roadhouse

Texas Roadhouse is offering free lunch to veterans and active duty military members on November 11 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. There are no restrictions to menu items included in the deal, making this one of the most flexible offers on the list. 

8. Red Lobster

Active duty members and veterans can take a trip to Red Lobster this Veteran’s Day and receive a free appetizer or dessert from a limited menu. Items included in the deal may vary by store, but the chain is advertising selections stuffed mushrooms, cheesecake and more. Guests must show a valid military ID or proof of service to redeem the offer. 

9. Chili’s Bar and Grill

Chili’s is offering a free meal to veterans and active service members on November 11. You can choose entrees  from a limited menu that includes quesadillas, pasta, burgers and more. The offer is only available for dine-in and beverages are not included.

10. Fogo De Chao

All veterans and active duty military personnel will receive a 50% discount on their meal at Brazilian steakhouse Fogo De Chao this Veteran’s Day. Up to three family members will also receive 10% off their meals and the offer is available at all locations. Verifying military ID required. 

11. Bob Evans

Veterans and active-duty military members will receive a free entree from a limited dine-in menu on Veterans Day. Menu selections include hotcakes, salads, french toast and more. You must show proof of service to be eligible for a free entree.

12. TCBY

The first six ounces of your order at TCBY on Veterans Day will be free for active duty and military veterans. You must show proof of service to receive the deal and the offer is good at participating locations only.

13. Hooters

Hooters is offering active-duty and retired military members 10 free boneless wings after purchasing 10. The offer is available for dine-in only and a military ID or proof of service must be provided to be eligible for the discount.

14. Friendly’s

Active duty personnel and veterans can enjoy a free All-American meal for lunch or dinner at Friendly’s on November 11. The meal includes an All-American burger served with a side of fries and a drink. 

15. Outback Steakhouse

Outback Steakhouse offers a 10% discount to service members, police officers, firefighters, and first responders year-round, with valid ID.

16. The Home Depot

The Home Depot offers a 10% discount to all active duty personnel, as well as veterans, on select national holidays, including Veterans Day. The discount is available storewide and is only applied up to purchases of $500. Valid proof of service includes a VA medical center veteran ID card, common access card, valid military ID and DD214. 

The discount is not applicable to installation or online purchases. 

17. Walgreens

From November 11 through 15, all veterans, active service members and their families will receive 20% off eligible regular priced items with a Balance Rewards or myWalgreens card. The discount is available in-store only and cannot be combined with other discounts. You must show proof of service to receive the discount. 

18. Target

From November 1 through 11, verified military members can receive a 10% off storewide coupon via email. You must sign up for Target’s Circle program to verify your military status and receive the coupon. The coupon can be used in stores and online at Target.com.

19. BJ’s Wholesale

All military personnel will receive 25% off a BJ’s Wholesale membership plus a $10 coupon when they sign up in store or online. Valid military ID is required and you must sign up for Easy Renewal to pay your annual membership fee. 

20. Starbucks

All veterans and active duty military personnel, and their family members, will receive a free tall cup of brewed coffee at participating Starbucks stores. The beverage chain is also donating 25 cents for every cup of hot coffee sold nationwide today to nonprofits Headstrong and Team Red, White and Blue. 

21. Great Clips

Veterans and active duty military members can receive a free hair cut at Great Clips on November 11 or grab a free haircut card to use at a later date (redeemable until December 11, 2020). Non-military customers can purchase a service on Veterans Day and receive a free haircut card to give to a service member they know. 

22. Sport Clips

Veterans and active duty service members will receive free haircuts on November 11 at participating Sport Clips locations. You must show valid proof of service. The salon will also donate $1 from every haircut service to the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” program.

22. Free National Parks Pass For Life

Entry to U.S. national parks is free for everyone on Veterans Day—but active military members and veterans are entitled to even better National Park Service (NPS) perks.

  Active service members and their families qualify for a free America the Beautiful annual pass.

And this year, NPS expanded those perks for veterans and Gold Star Families (those who have lost a family member to military service), who can now get free access to parks for life, starting in October 2020. Identification is required to receive free entry.
